Exposed Firearms


API Academy is certified by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) to train in exposed weapons.  Our course meets all BSIS requirements for certification and our Range Masters are experienced and safety oriented.  Courses are held in the API Classroom and hands on instruction is performed at a private range.
 
This course is mandatory for a Security Officer to carry an exposed weapon on duty.  This course will instruct you in the legal and moral aspects of the use of deadly force.  You will be instructed in the basic use of firearms, including loading, unloading, handling, holstering, drawing and firing the required course of fire. If you bring your own weapon you need the weapon a minimum of 100 rounds (PER CALIBER), holster and good belt.
 
You MUST have one of the following for the course.  If you do not have one of these documents then you will not be allowed to take the course.

Range day will be held at an outside range and maybe subject to weather restrictions.  Classes must be paid for in advanced.

Listed below is the course of fire you will be firing for this permit.  Click on the links to see a small video clip of each section including holstering and reloading drills.
Stage 1
- You will draw and fire 6 rounds center mass at the target at 15 yards - You will have a total of 30 seconds to complete this course of fire.
 
Stage 2
- You will draw and fire 6 rounds center mass at the target at 7 yards - You will have a total of 10 seconds to complete this course of fire.
 
Stage 3
 
- You will draw and fire a total of 12 rounds at 7 yards. This will including drawing and firing 6 rounds unsupported strong hand, reload and fire the final 6 rounds unsupported weak hand. You will have 25 seconds to completethis course  of fire.


Stage 4

You will draw and fire a total of 14 rounds at 7 yards. This will including drawing and firing 6 rounds standing any stance, reload and fire 6 round from the kneeling position, reload and fire the final 2 rounds from the kneeling position.  You will have 45 seconds to  complete this course of fire.
 
Stage 5

You will draw and fire 3 rounds center mass at the target, re-holster on command.  Draw and fire 3 rounds center mass at 5 yards -

You will have a total of 4 seconds to complete each section of this course of fire.
 
Stage 6

You will draw and fire 2 rounds center mass at the target, re-holster on command. Draw and fire 2 rounds center mass at the target, re-holster on command. Draw and fire 2 rounds center mass at 3 yards - You will have a total of 4 seconds to complete each section of this course of fire.
