Exposed Firearms


API Academy is certified by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) to train in exposed weapons.  Our course meets all BSIS requirements for certification and our Range Masters are experienced and safety oriented.  Courses are held in the API Classroom and hands on instruction is performed at a private range.
 
This course is mandatory for a Security Officer to carry an exposed weapon on duty.  This course will instruct you in the legal and moral aspects of the use of deadly force.  You will be instructed in the basic use of firearms, including loading, unloading, handling, holstering, drawing and firing the required course of fire. If you bring your own weapon you need the weapon a minimum of 100 rounds (PER CALIBER), holster and good belt.
 
As of July 1, 2018 all initial applicants will be required to take a Assessment Module as well prior to the permit being issued.  This Assessment Module (Psychological Evaluation Test) Via PSI.  See link for more information on the BSIS website.  http://www.bsis.ca.gov/firearmsassessment/index.shtml

Range day will be held at an outside range and maybe subject to weather restrictions.  Classes must be paid for in advanced.

Effective 2024 there will be new requirements for range training depending on your weapon.
